Plain and Plane

Plain, an adjective, means clear or common, such as a plain view or a plain meal.

The monks ate plain food at the monastery.

Plane, a noun, has two different meanings. It can mean an airplane, or it can mean a carpenter's tool for smoothing wood.

The plane travelled at tremendous speed through the air.
The carpenter could not find his plane in his workshop.
